This will include educator guided online learning activities within the unit site.

Content

Integrating study and work experience in a systematic way is essential for forging close links between the university education process and the workplace. In this unit, students will undertake professional work experience with an approved host organisation for a minimum of 100 hours. The exact nature, activities and emphasis in each industry placement will vary according to the context, resources, and expertise of the staff of the host organisation as well as the experience, qualities, and aspirations of the student. This unit provides students with a systematic opportunity to undertake professional work experience through an IT placement, requiring them to critically reflect on their discipline-specific knowledge, practical skills, and unique employability attributes in alignment with their course and graduate learning outcomes.

Learning and assessment activities in this unit will help students develop a deeper understanding of key aspects of professional practice and support them in making informed decisions about their personal and professional development. Importantly, these activities will provide students with relevant evidence for future employment applications.

Work-integrated learning

Work-integrated learning activities within this unit provide you with an opportunity to develop work-related skills while you study.

To be eligible to study this unit, students will first be required to source and secure a placement opportunity with an appropriate host organisation and then submit an application with the SEBE WIL Team for approval. Placements may be paid or unpaid and do not have to be discipline-specific but must demonstrate relevance to broader IT technical skills.

In preparation for the placement, students are required to complete the Placement Preparation Module (PPM) before commencing their professional experience (placement), and undertake the online teaching, learning and assessment activities for the unit outside of professional experience (placement) hours. The online teaching, learning and assessment activities for the unit will consist of approximately 50 hours.

Delays in completing the placement could mean that the course will take longer to complete than the stated duration. Attendance at the placement may be required outside the trimester dates.

For more information and to complete the application process, please refer to SEBE WIL Program or email sebe-wil@deakin.edu.au.
