This innovative program awards a Masters qualification largely based on recognition of professional practice and is designed for experienced Engineering professionals seeking further career advancement.  Completion of this degree recognises the discipline-based knowledge and skills developed by professionals in the workplace and offers employers and professionals an alternative, and equivalent to traditional higher Master's degree offering new ways to match capability and opportunity. 

Indicative student workload

Successful students typically spend about 150 hours in learning and assessment for each one credit point unit. The time required to prepare evidence for credential assessment varies based on the student’s existing documentation.

Graduates of the Master of Professional Practice (Engineering) will automatically be given professional registration as a professional engineer (National Engineers Register), and attain Engineers Australia Chartered membership status, providing them a clear path to Chartered and independent practice as an engineering professional.   Upon the completion of this program, graduates will demonstrate advanced skills and complex knowledge in the Engineering discipline areas they have   selected to advance their career.

Course rules

To qualify for the Master of Professional Practice (Engineering), students must successfully complete 3 core units (totalling 4 credit points) of formal study and 10 Professional Practice credentials.  Each Professional Practice credential will assess the performance at a masters (advanced) level in one of the Deakin Graduate Learning Outcomes contextualised to Engineering. 

The course comprises the following:

  • 3 core units (totalling 4 credit points)
  • Completion of STP050 Academic Integrity (0-credit point compulsory unit)
  • 10 Professional Practice Credentials (Advanced Level)
