Course overview
The Graduate Diploma of Construction Management uses a case-based approach to learning to provide you with the initial knowledge of the theory and practice of construction management.
The course will provide with a basic understanding of the construction industry and construction projects with the knowledge to commence a career in a variety of roles as a construction professional.
The course has been designed for graduates from a related built environment discipline who wish to extend their knowledge and transition to the construction industry.
It is also suitable for graduates with demonstrable professional experience in construction, through public or private enterprises, who wish to formalise their entry into the construction management profession.
Students will work in a multi-disciplinary context to gain knowledge on construction management, quantity surveying, Building Information Modelling and environmental systems.
Pathways
There is strong demand for articulation by industry professionals from related disciplines such as architecture, property and engineering. This course provides opportunities for those people while also acknowledging their prior experience and knowledge.
Students can transfer to S792 Master of Construction Management (Professional) according to Deakin University regulations and processes.

Course rules
To complete the Graduate Diploma of Construction Management, students must attain 8 credit points. Most students choose to study 4 units per trimester, and usually undertake two trimesters in a year.
The course comprises a total of 8 credit points, which must include the following:
- 7 core units (7 credit points)
- One level 7 elective unit (one credit point)
- Completion of STP050 Academic Integrity (0-credit point compulsory unit)
- Completion of SRA710 Safety Induction Program (0-credit point compulsory unit)
- Completion of STP710 Career Tools for Employability (0-credit point unit) as a co-requisite for SRM776 Introduction to Construction Management
