Course overview
Study the Master of Business Analytics to become a business analytics professional capable of addressing business opportunities and challenges through analytics-based solutions. The program is designed to meet industry needs, and has been developed in conjunction with our course partners including IBM, Microsoft, Altis Consulting, Deloitte, Ernst & Young, PBT Group and PwC.
This course introduces you to a range of internationally recognised business intelligence and analytics tools and has a strong focus on practical learning. You’ll learn how decision-making problems in business can be solved using modern modelling and solution techniques.
During the course, you'll have the opportunity to complement your primary studies in business analytics with a specialisation in a wide range of business-related fields. Designed to meet current and future demands for skilled professionals with a breadth of transferrable skills, a specialisation can help deepen your knowledge in a particular business field, broadening your skills and making you more employable.
Big data concepts and issues are integrated across the curriculum, and you’ll have access to state-of-the-art business analytics software tools, such as IBM Cognos, Power BI, RapidMiner, Microsoft Excel and Tableau.
Indicative student workload
As a student in the Faculty of Business and Law, you can expect to participate in a range of teaching activities each week. This could include classes, seminars, practicals and online interaction. Course rules
The Master of Business Analytics is typically 8, 12 or 16 credit points. The exact number of credit points you study depends on how much credit you receive as recognition of prior learning (RPL) – your professional experience and previous qualifications – which can save you time and money.
For students undertaking 16 credit points, you study 11 credit points of core units, one credit point from course grouped elective units, plus completion of the compulsory 0-credit point module, MAI010 Academic Integrity Module, and 4 credit points of elective units which may be selected from a faculty wide specialisation, a selected list of units or any postgraduate units offered by the University, subject to eligibility.
Students are introduced to research tools and techniques in core units of the course where they learn analytic skills and the practical application of those skills in professional contexts. They must also complete a capstone unit that requires them to integrate the skills learnt over their course of study and produce an applied piece of research with reference to prevailing literature.
