Students and Applicants to Geelong Waterfront Campus

Travel between campuses will be required to complete this combined degree. The Bachelor of Commerce degree will be taught at Waterfront campus and the Bachelor of Arts degree will be taught at the Waurn Ponds Campus.

Depending on the major sequence you choose, your Bachelor of Commerce component may give you eligibility for a range of professional memberships and accreditations.

Students who complete the accounting major sequence are eligible to apply for:

Students who complete the marketing major sequence are eligible for a one-year credit reduction from the five years needed to become a Certified Practicing Marketer by the Australian Marketing Institute (AIM).

Students who complete the financial planning major sequence will satisfy the education standards prescribed by the Financial Adviser Standards and Ethics Authority (FASEA) to be able to provide financial advice in Australia and be eligible for entry into the certification programs of the professional financial planning associations – the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER® Certification Program offered by the Financial Planning Association of Australia (FPA) and the Fellow Chartered Financial Practitioner designation offered by the Association of Financial Advisers (AFA).

Students should consult with a course adviser to identify any additional requirements for membership for each professional body, and also consult with the professional body.

Course rules

To qualify for the award of Bachelor of Commerce/Bachelor of Arts, students must complete 32 credit points plus the compulsory 0-credit point module, MAI010 Academic Integrity Module.

Compulsory 0-credit point unit:-

To be completed in the first trimester of study.

16 credit points of Commerce coded units:-

  • 8 credit points of core units.
  • one major sequence of 8 credit points must be included.
  • A minimum of 4 credit points at level 3 of Commerce coded units

16 credit points of Arts coded units:-

  • two major sequences of at least 8 credit points each. Majors must comprise 2 credit points at level 1 and a minimum of 2 credit points at level 3 (unless otherwise stated)

Or;

  • One major of at least 8 credit points and one minor of at least 4 credit points consisting of a minimum of 1 credit point at level one and no more than 1 credit point at level 3 **

And;

  • A minimum of 4 credit points at level 3 of Arts coded units
  • A maximum of 6 credit points at level 1 of Arts coded units

** Students completing minors in Arabic, Chinese, Indonesian and Spanish are permitted to complete 4 cp across any 2 levels. i.e. students may complete 2 credit points at level 2 and 2 credit points at level 3

Course requirements for both the Bachelor of Commerce (M300) and the Bachelor of Arts (A300) must be satisfied.

Work experience

Elective units may provide the opportunity for Work Integrated Learning experiences.
