Creative problem-solvers with a love of design and an aptitude for technical IT skills should explore our Bachelor of Design (Digital Technologies). Learn about user experience (UX), design strategies, digital technologies and interactive media, to deliver impactful digital solutions for creative and social issues in our changing world.
Explore core themes including technological entrepreneurship and innovation, design thinking and collaborative practice.
Then customise your degree by choosing electives that spark your interest, such as creative coding, robotics and 3D motion. This unique combination of technical and artistic skills allows you to forge a creative and rewarding career beyond the traditional IT and creative arts streams.

Course rules
To qualify for the award of Bachelor of Design (Digital Technologies) a student must complete 24 credit points including:
- 15 x core units (totalling 16 credit points)
- 2 x course elective units from list A
- 6 x open elective units
- No more than 12 credit points at level 1
- AAI018 Academic Integrity (0-credit-point compulsory unit)

We suggest students complete at least 4 units in a subject area different to their degree, preferably a linked sequence of study in the same area. This choice can include units from any degree in the University but is best chosen from the subject areas in the Bachelor of Creative Arts: (Dance, Drama, Visual Arts, Photography), Bachelor of Design: (Visual Communication, 3D Animation) or Bachelor of Arts programs

Other learning experiences
Visual Communication Design have successfully conducted a Design/Animation study tour program to Japan for over seven years. This study tour includes visits to industry and university partners, workshops with Japanese students and academics.
Students can choose to complete one or two internship units as an elective.
Visual Communication Design, in the past, has students involved with Deakin Marketing department, Verandah magazine, small work based projects that have come from the community and participating in exhibitions. The program is a rich program with many opportunities for students to expand on their learning experiences.
