Content

This unit will provide students with the ability to critically analyse and synthesise pedagogical principles of assessment and planning to reflect contemporary understandings of teaching and learning for children under two years of age. By critiquing their theoretical knowledge and understandings of assessment and planning, students will develop and broaden their competencies as teachers to incorporate the perspectives and aspirations of children under two and their families.

Students will engage in critical reflection on the influences of their own values, beliefs and understandings about teaching and learning. They will develop the abilities to incorporate different understandings from their own worldviews when assessing and planning for children’s learning. This will include the ability to recognise and respond to learning for individual children in a way that is inclusive of the child’s own social and cultural understandings.
