Content
SRD760 will introduce students to the multi-disciplinary aspects and processes involved in design and planning for achieving sustainability and facilitating place making in large scale urban development. The unit will focus on the integration and application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) as a research, visualisation, and modelling tool for addressing complex urban problems such as climate change, globalisation and contemporary socio-cultural issues. In a project-based format, students will develop an understanding of relevant guidelines, theories, policies, design principles and precedents from global to local scale and will practically apply this understanding by critically examining urban built environment in diverse contexts and scales. The unit aims to foster comprehensive understanding of contemporary spatio-environmental and socio-cultural challenges by developing critical spatial and scientific thinking with urban level research and analytical capabilities in the students.
