Content
Integrating study and work experience in a systematic way is essential for forging close links between the university education process and the workplace. In this unit, students will have the opportunity to gain professional work experience with a course-related host organisation, approved by the unit chair for a minimum of 80 hours. Individual placements cannot exceed a maximum of 160 hours, but we encourage students to consider multiple placements for additional experience. Through a combination of preparatory classes and a work placement, students will develop generic, employability skills that prepares them for work, and a career in their chosen fields.
There are many benefits to both students, and employers from undertaking relevant work placements during study. Learning and assessment activities in this unit will help students to develop an appreciation for work-life, and to make decisions about personal, professional and career development. Most importantly, it will provide students with relevant evidence of experience and skills when applying for future work.
*Placements for this unit can be undertaken once a student is enrolled (1st September in the year before the unit coursework commences), however must be completed by the deadline in the trimester they undertake the unit (see unit site for specific details).
