Content
This unit forms part of the Critical Understandings Cluster. Caring for children and adolescents presents distinct challenges for nurses. This requires an appraisal of growth and development, legal and ethical responsibilities and how these impact on the requirements specific to these groups.
Opportunities will be provided for students to develop knowledge regarding the role and responsibilities of the nurse in managing symptoms and risk in relation to children and adolescents. Identification of appropriate evidence-based interventions to promote optimal functional status and development of the child or adolescent will be explored.
In this unit communication specific to children and adolescents living with a disability, those who are Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD), and/or from low socioeconomic backgrounds will be addressed.
