Content
How do we change the world, or stop it from changing? This unit considers social movements and political parties as distinct but related forms of collective action. Students are introduced to key concepts in the analysis of social movements and political parties, such as contentious politics, repertoires of contention, partisan identification, the nature of revolution, collective action problems and many more. These concepts are illustrated by a consideration of Australian and international politics considering movements are diverse as East European civic revolutions, Palestinian nationalism, religious conservatism and Australian Indigenous activism.
