Content
This unit offers the opportunity to discover the history and practices of analogue photography and to understand how it came to define the medium while still continuing to influence and inform contemporary digital culture. Using a range of analogue films and practices, students will acquire camera handling skills and the techniques to understand the relationships between the subject and the lens, light and exposure and to creatively compose visual elements to capture and express their unique vision of the world. This unit does not include analogue darkroom practice.
Students enrolled in this unit are advised to obtain their own manual 35mm camera with the following specifications:
• Manual controls (you must be able to change the aperture and shutter speed)
• Built in light meter
• Standard lens (approx. 50mm)
• Hot shoe or synch point for flash unit
