Content
This unit addresses the impact of procurement, materials, components and construction systems on the Whole Life Carbon of a building project in conjunction with an understanding of operational and embodied carbon implications of materials, components and systems. The regulatory context in Australia will also be explored and you will be required to develop knowledge of building material science and environmental science relevant to the optimisation of a conceptual design. You will be challenged to identify, integrate and analyse the environmental sustainability of elements such as energy, water, material depletion, waste, embodied carbon and carbon emission during the lifecycle of a project. Additionally, you will investigate and integrate thermal, water, lighting and acoustic sustainable environmental building systems into a case study project using quantitative simulation methodologies in order to respond to climatic conditions and reduce mechanical equipment, energy consumption and CO2 emissions. Computational methods are introduced for evaluation and assessment of building performance to support effective decision making.
