Content
This unit addresses the coordination and integration of appropriate environmental systems including energy, thermal comfort, lighting and acoustics. Through the introduction of quantitative research methodologies, you will be able to evaluate and ascertain the salient problems occurring in building environments. The unit will challenge you to: understand and apply building performance principles relating to lighting and acoustics; applicable codes and standards; and, recognise the appropriate selection of materials and components related to environmental system principles to enhance thermal, visual and aural comfort. You will be required to analyse building envelope and glazing materials to respond to climatic conditions in order to reduce mechanical equipment, energy consumption and CO2 emissions. Computational methods are introduced for evaluation and assessment of building performance to support effective decision making.
| ULO | These are the Learning Outcomes (ULO) for this unit. At the completion of this unit, successful students can: | Deakin Graduate Learning Outcomes |
|---|---|---|
| ULO1 | Understand energy, thermal, visual and aural environmental principles | GLO1: Discipline-specific knowledge and capabilities |
| ULO2 | Evaluate and appraise the appropriate selection of environmental systems and materials selected to enhance building performance | GLO1: Discipline-specific knowledge and capabilities |
| ULO3 | Apply computational methods and software to make informed design judgements in relation to improving indoor environments and overall environmental impacts as building professionals | GLO1: Discipline-specific knowledge and capabilities |
| ULO4 | Develop individual evaluation skills and expertise applicable to a project | GLO1: Discipline-specific knowledge and capabilities |
These Unit Learning Outcomes are applicable for all teaching periods throughout the year.
