Content
Integrating study and work experience in a systematic way is essential for forging close links between the university education process and the workplace. In this unit, students will have the opportunity to gain professional work experience with a course-related host organisation, approved by the unit chair, for a minimum of 80 hours - maximum of 160 hours. In addition, students are required to complete the online pre-placement employability modules (Ready: WIL Placement Unit Induction modules) prior to commencing the placement.
Through a combination of preparatory classes and work placement, students will develop generic, employment-related professional skills that prepares them for work, and a career in the field of environmental science.
There are many benefits to both students, and employers from undertaking relevant work placements during study. Learning and assessment activities in this unit will help students to develop an appreciation for work-life, and to make decisions about personal, professional and career development. Most importantly, it will provide students with relevant evidence of experience and skills when applying for future work.
Note: Longer placements may be possible (up to a maximum of 160 hours), to be negotiated with the host supervisor, and subject to approval by the Unit Chair.

*Duration of the unit is subject to placement completion and may fall outside of stated trimester dates. This unit also includes a professional job interview that students may be required to travel off campus to attend.

Hurdle requirement
To be eligible to obtain a pass in this unit students must complete a minimum of 80 hours (maximum of 160 hours) of placement to the satisfaction of the host organisation, by the end of week 10.
