Content
This unit engages students studying an engineering course at all stages of their career in work integrated learning through professional engineering practice experience and continuous professional development (CPD). Your professional experience/placement within a recognised organisation and role must be approved by the Unit Chair before enrolment in the unit and must be for a minimum of 30 working days (225 hours).
The job role for your professional experience/placement must allow you to apply and demonstrate knowledge and skills developed throughout your course.
In this unit you will conduct a self-evaluation, set personal and professional goals, and engage in professional practice and professional development within a workplace environment. You will then apply the skill of critical self-reflection to explore personal learning throughout this unit, and the impact this experience has had on your approach to professional practice.
As a result of your engagement in this unit you will be able to identify the importance of lifelong learning, judge how various opportunities can impact your future career and employability and therefore engage in appropriate personal and professional development.
Work-Integrated Learning
Work-integrated learning activities within this unit provide you with an opportunity to develop work-related skills while you study.
Students are required to complete the Placement Preparation Module (PPM) on the unit site, before commencing their professional experience (placement).
Delays in completing the placement could mean that the course will take longer to complete than the stated duration. Attendance at the placement may be required outside the trimester dates. Please refer to the SEBE WIL Program or email sebe-wil@deakin.edu.au for guidelines on enrolment.

To support student success at Deakin, we have a bring-your-own-device (BYOD) learning environment that acknowledges that students and educators bring with them the digital tools they regularly use to complete academic tasks. These tools stay with you beyond the classroom, helping you to keep learning, explore ideas more deeply, and connect with knowledge in ways that matter to you.
