Content

This unit is a capstone project for students immediately prior to them leaving for their chosen career. Students will undertake project work proposed in SEJ441, and then critically analyse and evaluate the results prior to communicating the project outcomes. It encompasses a number of technical engineering skills and an understanding of professional context in their discipline gained during the degree, and thus is a reflection of what they can anticipate when entering employment as a graduate engineer. Projects will have a research element to them in the justification of the approach and critical evaluation of results, although some may not necessarily be research-based, but rather industry specific. The learning style is predominantly student-led with direction from a supervisor through face-to-face or on-line meetings.

Learning outcomes

ULO These are the Unit Learning Outcomes (ULOs) for this unit. At the completion of this unit, successful students can:

Alignment to Deakin Graduate Learning Outcomes (GLOs)

ULO1

Demonstrate advanced technical and theoretical knowledge in a specific area of their chosen discipline through the presentation, critical analysis and evaluation of project results.

GLO1: Discipline-specific knowledge and capabilities
GLO2: Communication
GLO4: Critical thinking
GLO5: Problem solving

ULO2

Exhibit autonomy in conducting and managing a substantial project using formal project planning methods to a professional standard while accommodating stakeholder safety, risk and ethical requirements.

GLO6: Self-management
GLO8: Global citizenship

ULO3

Demonstrate effective oral and visual communication skills in conveying project outcomes to a varied audience in an exhibition format.

GLO2: Communication

Learning resource

The texts and reading list for SEJ446 can be found via the University Library.

Note: Select the relevant trimester reading list. Please note that a future teaching period's reading list may not be available until a month prior to the start of that teaching period so you may wish to use the relevant trimester's prior year reading list as a guide only.

Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)

To fully engage with Deakin's learning experiences, students must be able to access and use internet-connected devices as outlined in computing requirements at Deakin.

To support student success at Deakin, we have a bring-your-own-device (BYOD) learning environment that acknowledges that students and educators bring with them the digital tools they regularly use to complete academic tasks. These tools stay with you beyond the classroom, helping you to keep learning, explore ideas more deeply, and connect with knowledge in ways that matter to you.

Students requiring a loan device should visit our Loan Laptop webpage or students requiring longer-term assistance should visit our Student Financial Assistance webpage.
