In-person attendance requirements

Students are required to attend and participate in on-campus practical intensive teaching periods. These periods are 2 to 5 days long and are held at our Burwood (Melbourne) and Waurn Ponds (Geelong) campuses. There is usually a practical intensive in the middle of trimester 1 and at the end of trimester 2. Specific dates and details are announced on course and unit CloudDeakin sites.

Typical study commitment

Students will on average spend 150 hours over the teaching period undertaking the teaching, learning and assessment activities for this unit.

This will include educator guided online learning activities within the unit site.

Note

Students enrol in the unit online however there are significant on campus requirements.

International students are strongly encouraged to carefully consider their obligations to attend on-campus practical intensives. Students should use the handbook to determine in which trimester/s this unit is offered. In some circumstances it may be possible to create a unit enrolment plan (i.e. a course map), so that you can complete all practical intensive obligations in one visit to Australia.

Deakin University is not obligated to provide any students with a COE (confirmation of enrolment) to facilitate a student visa application.

Content

This unit will provide students with the theoretical principles and practical skills required to physically prepare athletes for competition. This unit will cover the design of training programs to improve muscular hypertrophy, strength, power, speed, agility and energy systems, as well as design of warm ups, cool downs and mobility training. Additionally, this unit will examine methods of periodising and tapering training as part of a long-term training development program. Students will also learn how to coach a range of powerlifting and weightlifting movements.

Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)

To fully engage with Deakin's learning experiences, students must be able to access and use internet-connected devices as outlined in computing requirements at Deakin.

To support student success at Deakin, we have a bring-your-own-device (BYOD) learning environment that acknowledges that students and educators bring with them the digital tools they regularly use to complete academic tasks. These tools stay with you beyond the classroom, helping you to keep learning, explore ideas more deeply, and connect with knowledge in ways that matter to you.

Students requiring a loan device should visit our Loan Laptop webpage or students requiring longer-term assistance should visit our Student Financial Assistance webpage.
