Students will spend on average 150 hours over the trimester undertaking synchronous and  asynchronous teaching and learning activities for this unit.

This will include 18 hours synchronous learning activities and 18 hours of guided asynchronous learning activities.

Content

This unit is the first of two units within the Professional Studies Cluster. Students will be given the opportunity to develop specific knowledge relevant to nursing to foster an understanding of contemporary nursing practice.

Students will explore local and global issues influencing the nursing profession and the role of nurses in promoting patient safety and quality care. This will include the examination of the underpinning principles of quality and safety in health care including person-centred care, risk management, therapeutic communication, ethical and legal issues relevant to nursing practice, evidence-based practice, and collaboration.
