| Educator-facilitated (scheduled) learning activities - on-campus unit enrolment | This unit is designed to facilitate students who are enrolled in H911 (MD) to undertake research projects in parallel with their core studies. The responsibility to identify the research project and a suitable supervisor lies with the student. Students undertaking this unit must complete the Human Research Ethics Module online prior to application. Students must submit an outline of the research project and the role that they will play in the research and demonstrate that there is appropriate ethics approval in place. Students must also demonstrate that they have received the required occupational health and safety training prior to commencement. Approval of enrolment will be contingent on the student having demonstrated a record of satisfactory performance in the MD program. Project duration will vary but will not be less than 40 hours or more than 80 hours in the semester of enrolment (students may apply for an extended project duration under certain conditions). |
| Typical study commitment | Students will on average spend 75 hours over the semester undertaking the teaching, learning and assessment activities for this unit. |
Content
This unit enables students in the MD program to undertake research activities in addition to their core studies.
Students may enrol in this zero-credit point unit at the commencement of any semester after the completion of HME911* provided that they have met the conditions of enrolment:
- good academic standing in the MD core units completed to date
- completion of the Human Research Ethics online module
- submission of an outline of the research project, including supervising investigators and the role that the student will play
- demonstration that there is ethics approval in place for the project
- demonstration that the student has been provided with any required occupational health and safety training
*Exemptions may be granted to the requirement that students have completed HME911, if they have already completed a research program (for example Honours or equivalent).
Successful completion of the unit will require the student to meet project-specific goals identified by the research supervisor and approved by the unit chair (for example completion of a literature review, data collection, or manuscript preparation). The student is not to undertake more than 80 hours of work per enrolled semester.
Whilst undertaking this unit the student is expected to adhere to the code of conduct and professionalism guidelines which apply to the core MD units.

To support student success at Deakin, we have a bring-your-own-device (BYOD) learning environment that acknowledges that students and educators bring with them the digital tools they regularly use to complete academic tasks. These tools stay with you beyond the classroom, helping you to keep learning, explore ideas more deeply, and connect with knowledge in ways that matter to you.
Students requiring a loan device should visit our Loan Laptop webpage or students requiring longer-term assistance should visit our Student Financial Assistance webpage.
