Police Check and Working with Children Check
Some external host organisations require students to obtain a police check prior to commencing a placement. For international students, some external host organisations require international students to obtain both an Australian and International Criminal History check. If a police check is required, the Faculty of Health utilises an online service called 'Fit2Work'. Please visit the Fit2Work Police Check website to apply for your police check. International students will be required to complete a statutory declaration in addition to the police check as per the Standardised Student Induction Protocol from Department of Health. For full details, please visit the unit site when it becomes available. Some external host organisations may also require students to obtain a Working with Children Check if students will be working directly with children or families whilst on placement. If a Working with Children Check is required students will need to source this Check via the Victorian Government Working with Children Check site.
Other relevant checks such as immunisations and a National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) Check may also be required to align with some host organisations' requirements. Please refer to the placement advertisement on the Deakin Talent Jobs Board for host organisation specific requirements.
The costs of police checks, Working with Children Checks, immunisations and any other relevant check are payable by students.
Deakin University accepts no liability for the requirements imposed by external host organisations.
This unit aims to provide students with an authentic experience in a health-discipline related role.
Students are required to undertake a minimum of 120 hours of work experience in a health-related agency. In addition to developing a practical understanding of their field of study, this experience will help students further develop the professional and personal skills required to work in their sector.
This unit includes a pre-placement seminar and a post- placement seminar. Support for students is provided through the unit site, which includes resources and assessment information.
Students enrolled in this unit are ambassadors for their courses as well as for Deakin University. The highest standards of professional and personal conduct are expected at all times. Students need to achieve a pass in each of the assessment tasks to successfully pass the Unit. Once this is achieved the student will be awarded an ungraded PASS for the Unit.
Each unit in your course is a building block towards Deakin's Graduate Learning Outcomes - not all units develop and assess every Graduate Learning Outcome (GLO).
