Educator-facilitated (scheduled) learning activities - on-campus unit enrolment:	Approximately 225 - 250 hours working in industry. Students are expected to attend meetings with their internship supervisor and the academic supervisor.

Typical study commitment:	Students will on average spend 300 hours over the trimester undertaking the teaching, learning and assessment activities for this unit.
Note: This unit is the second of 2 placement units (consisting of SLE768 Industry Practice A and SLE769 Industry Practice B). This unit, SLE769, can be taken either concurrently with SLE768 Industry Practice A or in the trimester after SLE768 Industry Practice A. Please refer to the unit site for assessment details if undertaking both units in the same trimester. The total 450 hours of your placement activity can be completed either: • full-time in accelerated mode, in which this unit (SLE769) will be taken concurrently in the same trimester as SLE768 Industry Practice A, OR • part-time in non-accelerated mode, where you enrol in this unit (SLE769) in the trimester following the completion of SLE768 (not available in T3). To be eligible to enrol in SLE768 and SLE769, students are required to source and secure a placement opportunity with an appropriate host organisation. Students must then submit an application with the SEBE WIL Team for approval. For more information and to complete the application process: please refer to the SEBE WIL information page or email sebe-wil@deakin.edu.au. In preparation for placement, students are required to complete the Placement Preparation Module (PPM) before commencing their professional experience (placement). Note also that delays in completing the placement could mean that the course will take longer to complete than the stated duration. Attendance at the placement may be required outside the trimester dates.

Content

Integrating study and work experience in a systematic way is essential for forging close links between the university education process and the workplace. Students will have the opportunity to gain professional work experience with an approved host organisation. The exact nature, activities and emphasis in each industry placement will vary according to the context, resources and expertise of staff as well as the experience, qualities and aspirations of the student. This systematic opportunity (along with the partner internship unit SLE768 Industry Practice A) will provide students with experiences with which they can learn about an organisation, critically reflect on their Course and Graduate Learning Outcomes, and discipline-specific as well as generic competencies in the context of work. There are many benefits to students and employers from undertaking relevant work placements / industry placements during study. The key benefit is that it prepares students for their future professional careers. Learning and assessment activities in this unit will help students develop an appreciation for work-life and make decisions about personal and professional development. Most importantly, it will provide students relevant experience and artifacts when applying for future work.

The assessment due weeks provided may change. The Unit Chair will clarify the exact assessment requirements, including the due date, at the start of the teaching period.

Hurdle requirement

To be eligible to obtain a pass in this unit, students must:

achieve at least 50% of the total mark allocated for the professional portfolio assessment task (AT4).
demonstrate that they are working to the satisfaction of the host organisation (including skill competency levels, professional code of conduct and project output requirements) at both the mid and end of professional experience (placement) phases.

Unit Fee Information
