Typical study commitment: | Students will on average spend 150 hours over the trimester undertaking the teaching, learning and assessment activities for this unit. This will include educator guided online learning activities within the unit site. |
Note:Online self-paced interactive learning each week will provide students with the theoretical background for practical counselling skills taught in online seminars. Online seminars each week will support students to develop applied counselling skills. These seminars will focus on demonstrating and practising counselling activities in dyads and triads. |
Content
This unit will provide students with an understanding of the major models of human development across the lifespan and the relevant considerations for counselling at each stage. Students will learn about the developmental tasks, the common developmental issues that individuals might bring to counselling and review and critique the theory and research relating to developmental models. Students will also learn evidence-informed counselling skills that are designed to support individuals at various developmental stages, including an introduction to educational and career counselling skills, as well as working with parents and families.
