Content
This unit introduces students to the changing nature of security and responses to insecurity. Students first study the key concepts in international security: power and conflict. We examine debates about the changing nature of warfare and the role of political violence and terrorism in the international system. Following this, students consider the effect of contemporary conflict and political violence on the individuals caught up in the violence.
In this, we examine the concept of human security: humanitarian intervention, health, aid, and development and security.
The unit is designed to help students think, talk and write about conflict, insecurity and responses to it in an informed and critical manner.
