Content

This is a studio-based unit for Dance, Drama, Photography and Visual Art Students. It focuses on developing compositional, contextual and critical thinking that is vital for the realisation of creative practice (individual or collaborative).

Through in-progress showings and critiques of work the unit informs, supports and challenge the development of students' creative practice. For Drama, students will explore playful approaches to creating devised performance. These approaches combine physical and vocal techniques, text and image development, ensemble processes and dynamics and lead to the development of original work for feedback. For Dance, students will explore choreographic strategies, methods and perspectives as defined and practiced by significant choreographers in contemporary dance. Photography students are introduced to experimental processes and hybrid practices including medium format cameras, hand-held exposure meters, darkroom processing, scanning and printing.

Emphasis is placed on technical refinement, conceptual and editing skills. In Visual Arts students explore the potentiality and unique properties of a range of two, three and four dimensional media while focusing on individual and collaborative projects that examine the key stages of art making from concept, selection of appropriate media, making/fabrication and exhibiting.
